Chinese herbal medicine has been practiced for at least 2,500 years. Chinese herbal formulas come in various forms such as pills, tablets, liquid tinctures or teas.
Chinese herbs work effectively because your practitioner acknowledges that you are not merely your disease. Unlike western pharmaceutical medicine and western herbal practices which primarily treat symptoms, practitioners of Chinese medicine design a unique herbal formula and administration protocol especially for each patient that changes as the patient's body's health changes.
Many prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs only treat symptoms and have side effects. When taken under the supervision of a trained practitioner, Chinese herbs have no side effects and treat the root cause of disease as well as the symptom. When patients are treated at the root level, symptoms do not readily return.
Topical herbal remedies, such as Green Willow Liniment for arthritic pain, are easy to self-prescribe
Before taking herbs notify your practitioner if:
Treatments with herbs only and no acupuncture are available at Aiyana Acupuncture & Chinese Herbs.
- You are allergic to substances such as wheat, seafood or mushrooms.
- You are taking prescription medication. Some herbs may reduce the efficacy of important prescription medicines.
- You are taking other herbs or minerals.
- You are vegetarian, because some formulas contain animal products.
Before taking any herbs internally, Juliette Aiyana, L.Ac. urges the public to seek advice from a trained, qualified herbalist rather than self-administer herbs. A qualified practitioner is trained to understand the indications and contraindications of herbal administration. Just because a product is natural does not always mean it is safe. Herbs should be taken in specifically measured doses and many herbs should not be ingested for prolonged periods of time.

"I originally started seeing Juliette Aiyana for TMJ. I clenched my jaw so badly at night that I would have terrible back and neck pain, as well as inner ear pain. I didn't want to just wear a night-guard, as many dentists will suggest. That to me was like putting a bandaid on a problem, rather than actually fixing the problem. There are so many things I can say about Juliette Aiyana, L.Ac.. She listens, she is thorough, she is knowledgeable, she is caring, she is enthusiastic, and she has a great laugh. And most of all, she cured me. It seems that the problem wasn't really my jaw, but a spleen qi and liver qi imbalance. Who else can tell you that but an acupuncturist?
After my jaw was better, I continued to see Juliette for overall health. I told her my husband and I wanted to start a family. Let me tell you, I was pregnant in no time at all. I don't know how much needles had to do with it, but if that's something you want and you've been having a hard time, I can't think of why you wouldn't give acupuncture a try.
It's always a pleasure to go to Juliette's office. It is calming and quiet. And when you leave, you feel healthy, happy and at peace."
